we’re outta here!!

I’ve just written my first ever post on our brand new blog. Which, inevitably means that this will be my last post ever on this one.

To keep up to date with us and for new posts, please head on over to our new home at http://jennstarkphotographers.com. Can’t wait to see you there.

This was my first blog ever, so it’s kind of sad to leave. But it’s time. Why do I feel like I’m breaking up with somebody right now???

See you over at our new blog!

meghan & alex trash the dress.

Meghan’s one of the most sarcastically hilarious people I’ve ever known. She’s the one who you immediately turn to after anything even remotely joke-worthy happens, just to see her reaction or to hear what she’ll have to say about it. She’s also one of the most honest people I’ve ever know – and people who know her will laugh at this comment, but I actually really admire her for it! It shows that she’s pretty brave and is willing to do what it takes to move people forward and help them realize their potential.

Alex is British. And I know that this shouldn’t really be among one of the defining features I give him, but for me it kind of is really defining in my relationship with him, because well I’m British. Only difference is that he has the accent to prove it. I’m the only one (besides Meghan) who gets it when he says that he’s going to have a lie in the next morning. Alex is also one of the most quietly determined people I’ve ever known. And he loves his wife a lot.

Together, Meghan and Alex do some pretty great things. After they got married, they started a CIDA-funded project called the “Just Us Project”, which was aimed at educating youth around Canada about the millennium goals as set out by the United Nations. For this project, they spent a bit of time filming in Rwanda (Alex is a videographer) and they came back with the footage to share at churches and high schools across Canada. I was, and still am, pretty inspired by their initiative and passion for helping others.

I met Meghan and Alex at one of the first weddings I ever photographed…and it wasn’t long before I found myself meeting up with them again at other get togethers/events/parties and they quickly became pretty good friends of mine. Last winter (2009), Meghan had the idea that to celebrate her and Alex’s one year wedding anniversary, they could get all dressed up in their wedding attire and get me to take some photos of them out in the snow, and I was definitely game. We headed over the one of my favourite areas of Toronto – Sunnybrook Park – on an absolutely freezing cold day for our shoot. It was probably close to the coldest I’ve ever been. And I was the one wearing a coat…a scarf…a hat. The only other people we saw were a couple of people CROSS COUNTRY SKIING. In between photos we would dash back to our cars, pump the heat, and just sit there for a while, defrosting. Oh, and Meghan, of course, was in a wedding dress. Troopers!

We didn’t exactly “trash” Meghan’s dress in the end, but I had so much fun doing this shoot (despite the cold) and just thought I’d post some of the photos here on this day, January 13th, and wish these guys a very happy SECOND wedding anniversary today :) And now…on to the PHOTOS!
